In August of 2011, the administration of the Indian state of West Bengal votedto change the official name to "West Bengal" in Bengali. The problem is there isno convenient way (yet) to represent this in publications in English, or in anyother language other than Bengali, which requires transliteration of some sort.

Already in the media we see variants such as Paschim Banga, PoshchimBangla, Poshchim Bongo... etc.

Transliteration has always been an imperfect art, but this blogger AntarikshBotale wonders if there are any alternatives.
