Description:

The Department of Linguistics and the Institute of English and American Studies, Faculty of Modern Languages at Goethe University Frankfurt, each offer the position of a Research Associate (m/f/d) (E 13 TV-G-U, 65% part-time) to be filled on 01 April 2024 within Project B01 “Negation at the interfaces: Negation and existential quantification in German” (principal investigators Prof. Dr. Markus Bader, Dr. Sascha Bargmann, and Prof. Dr. Gert Webelhuth). The project is part of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1629 “Negation in Language and Beyond (NegLaB)”. The position will be temporary and restricted until 31 December 2027. The salary grade is based on the job descriptions of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to Goethe University.

The responsibilities of the two research associates include collaboration and scientific services in research within Project B01 of the CRC 1629 “NegLaB”. The project explores the interaction of negation and quantifier scope in German with corpus-linguistic and psycholinguistic methods. The two research associates are expected to fulfill the following tasks, one of them mainly being responsible for the corpus-linguistic part, and the other for the psycholinguistic part:
- independent participation in Project B01, cooperation with other projects, and involvement in activities of the CRC overall
- creation, execution, and analysis of corpus analyses and psycholinguistic experiments
- application of current statistical methods
- presentation of results at internal, national, and international conferences as well as documentation of results in scientific publications

The research associates will have the opportunity to engage in independent research and to get a Ph.D.

Requirements:
- university degree (Master or comparable) in linguistics or a relevant field with a linguistic and/or corpus-linguistic and/or psycholinguistic focus (needs to be completed by 31 March 2024)
- research interest and knowledge in syntax and semantics and/or corpus linguistics and/or psycholinguistics
- excellent language skills in German and English
- proficiency in common software (Office, R) and willingness to learn to use additional software to conduct corpus studies and experiments are advantageous
- ability to work independently, engage in teamwork, and communicate openly
