Description:
The Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University organizes Braga Summer School in Linguistics, within the scope of the Doctoral Program in Linguistics. The event will offer advanced training in several areas of linguistic studies, especially from the perspective of Cognitive and Functional Linguistics in their most recent developments and in an interdisciplinary dialogue with other cognitive sciences.

The Summer School will consist of five different seminar courses taught in English, in person.

Course 1: From structuralism to usage-based linguistics: Currents and undercurrents in modern linguistics – Dirk Geeraerts (University of Leuven, Belgium)
Course 2: Eugenio Coseriu’s theory of language and contemporary linguistics – Johannes Kabatek (University of Zurich, Switzerland)
Course 3: Introduction to Statistics for Corpus Linguistics and Discourse Analysis – Dylan Glynn (Université Paris 8, France)
Course 4: Constructional alternations: A multimethod perspective – Jane Klavan (University of Tartu, Estonia)
Course 5: Analyzing protest discourse in cross-cultural contexts – Manuela Romano (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain)
