Postdoctoral position in project C03 | CRC 1252 Prominence in Language, University of Cologne, Germany
Project C03 “Reference management in bilingual narratives” of the Collaborative Research Centre 1252 “Prominence in Language“ (CRC 1252) seeks to fill a postdoctoral position. The position is available from 1 April 2025 on a full-time basis (39.83 hours per week). The position is to be filled for a fixed term until 31 December 2028. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
The Collaborative Research Centre 1252 “Prominence in Language” is a dynamic research environment with 20 research projects in linguistics and related fields. Our vision is to investigate prominence relations in larger discourse segments and dialogue. More information can be found here: https://sfb1252.uni-koeln.de/en/
Project C03 “Reference management in bilingual narratives” investigates how bilingual children establish discourse coherence and manage prominence in dialogues and narratives. This includes contexts where code-switching is allowed, enabling children to draw on their full range of linguistic resources. The project specifically examines their production of referring expressions and the use of gestures.
YOUR TASKS
- conduct research on prominence in language
- design, conduct and evaluate production experiments, and collaborate on the design of off-line tasks to capture individual variation among bilingual children (e.g., metalinguistic awareness tasks)
- contribute to data collection in bilingual schools
- develop and apply empirical methodologies in linguistic research
- present and disseminate research results in international scientific conferences and publications
- establish collaborations with other project within the Collaborative Research Center (CRC 1252)
- support the principal investigators and the doctoral candidate in coordinating the project
YOUR PROFILE
- excellent academic record
- a doctorate in psycho-/neurolinguistics, language acquisition, or cognitive science
- experience in designing and conducting experiments
- strong statistical knowledge and experience with data analysis
- excellent programming skills
- research experience at the international level
- ability to work collaboratively and adapt quickly to new research topics
- high proficiency in English
- strong motivation and commitment
- good communication skills and team-oriented mindset
