Our research is mainly concerned with creating linguistically sophisticated computational resources. We build on classic symbolic AI approaches, but explore their combination with subsymbolic machine learning approaches into hybrid systems. Our past work has included building resources for computationally under-resourced languages of South Asia, as well as work on framing, argumentation and the modelling of non-canonical questions. Our main theoretical framework is Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) and we work mainly with the computational suite of tools developed within and for LFG.
