Job Title: Research Position (Postdoc) in Psycholinguistics
Job Rank: Post Doc, Researcher

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Psycholinguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)
German (deu)

Description:

The CRC 1646 is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and investigates linguistic creativity in communication from a range of different perspectives.

Project C02 examines multimodal creativity in speech-gesture production and targets the underlying processes by investigating how creativity in language is enabled or constrained by its combination with the gestural modality and how this interplay is further conditioned by communicative or cognitive demands. We will identify patterns of multimodal creativity by combining behavourial experiments with psycholinguistic and computational A.I. modelling. The ultimate goal is to develop a cognitive-computational model that accounts for general mechanisms and processes of multimodal creativity.

Your Tasks

Research tasks (95 %):
- experimental research on multimodal language production and work on computational and psycholinguistic modeling of speech-gesture production processes
Participation in the CRC-internal organization and academic self-administration (5 %)

Employment is conducive to scientific qualification.

Your Profile

We expect:
- relevant, successfully completed scientific university degree (e. g. Master or Diploma) doctoral degree (completed by employment date) in linguistics, cognitive science or a related field with a focus on experimental psycholinguistics
- in-depth knowledge in one area of experimental psycholinguistics
- very good programming skills (e.g. R, Python)
- expertise in statistical analysis (e.g., mixed effects models, Bayesian statistics)
- international publication experience
-very good written and spoken English language skills
- strong communication skills and excellent presentation skills
- cooperative and team-oriented working style
- independent, self-reliant and committed way of working
- strong organizational and coordination skills

Preferred experience and skills:
- qualification in the profile as specified in the project C02 as described here
- experience in planning and conducting psycholinguistic behavioral experiments (including annotation and analysis of experimental (language/gesture) production data)
- knowledge in computational psycholinguistic modelling
- interest in working in a larger interdisciplinary research initiative
- basic written and spoken knowledge of German or willingness to learn German
