Are you interested in a fully-funded Master’s to make language technology more equitable and accessible? OntarioTech University’s Lee Language Lab in Canada is exploring language diversity and multilinguality. For instance, Google Translate fails at translating, “How to prevent COVID-19?” from English to Yoruba “How to make obstacle for COVID-19”. How can we expand language models to include more languages than just English? When can similarity between languages be leveraged? What can be done to improve the data quality for other languages?

Applicants are invited for a 2-year fully funded Master’s position at the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP) / Computational Linguistics, and Machine Learning, with Human-Computer Interaction, and Language Education. The position welcomes those with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software or computer engineering, information science, computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, or a related area. Successful applicants should have a strong foundation in mathematics and statistics with the ability to code and debug in Python. The applicant would ideally have experience in, or familiarity with concepts from, natural language processing, machine learning, and deep learning. However, applicants from the social sciences and humanities field are also welcome to apply and should have experience in creating desktop or mobile interfaces.

This Master’s position offers a unique opportunity to hone highly desirable skills in machine learning and acquire valuable research experience in an international environment. You will collaborate with experienced experts in the field, participate in our invited speaker series, attend top conferences virtually in the world, and be mentored via world-class training material.
