Focus: The MiLES Summer School will focus on the following topics:
1. Contact linguistics
2. Language planning in multilingual communities
3. Language contact, code-switching, and code-mixing in an Italo-Romance context
4. Geolinguistics: balancing conservation and innovation
5. Practical applications of language data and data collection: the case of VinKO
Minimum Education Level: B, MA, Doctoral students
Special Qualifications:
The primary language of instruction will be English, but a good understanding of at least one Romance language will be beneficial for full access to workshop content.
Description:
The MiLES Summer School will take place at the University of Turin from July 1 to July 3, 2024. It will offer intensive courses in contact linguistics, geolinguistics, language planning, and the revitalization of minority languages. The program will include lectures introducing prominent topics in contact linguistics and minority languages, as well as workshops where students can gain practical experience with linguistic tools and data.
Lessons will be held by Silvia Dal Negro (Bozen), Yaron Matras (Hamburg), Stefan Rabanus (Verona), Gianmario Raimondi (Aosta), and Riccardo Regis (Turin).
