Language Policies and Language Planning – Managing Multilingualism in Family and Society

Focus: The themes of this year’s Summer School will be:
• Family language policies: theoretical insights and case studies.
• Multilingualism, plurilingual and intercultural education and school inclusion.
• Linguistic practices and language ideologies in (super)diverse contexts.
Methodological tools for quantitative-qualitative research in linguistic, language education, sociolinguistic, and ethnographic fields will be provided. Additionally, interested participants (Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, researchers) will have the opportunity to present their research, discuss collected data, and explore strategies of analysis in thematic workshops with experts in the field and peers. Although presenting one’s research is not mandatory to participate in the Summer School, it is strongly encouraged and can be indicated in the registration form.

Description:
The University for Foreigners of Siena and the CLUSS Centre, in collaboration with the Doctoral School, will host the VI International Summer School on “Language Policies and Language Planning – Managing Multilingualism in Family and Society” from July 9 to 12, 2024. The International Summer School will be preceded by the Doctoral Colloquium (July 8th, 2024), which will not be limited to the themes of the Summer School.

Who can participate:
The Summer School is open to master’s degree students, graduates, Ph.D. students, researchers, and educators interested in the above-discussed disciplines and themes. The Doctoral Colloquium is open to Ph.D. students working on or interested in issues related to acquisition linguistics, language education, and language teaching.
When and where:
The Summer School and the Doctoral Colloquium will take place in person at the University for Foreigners of Siena.

− Students and staff of the University for Foreigners of Siena: Free registration (the €16.00 stamp duty for registration is required).
Summer School + Doctoral Colloquium
− External Ph.D. students: €196.00 (including the €16.00 stamp duty for registration);
− Ph.D. students from Unistrasi: free registration.
Doctoral Colloquium Only
− External Ph.D. students: free registration (two stamp duties are required, for a total amount of €32.00) [maximum 10 participants];
− Ph.D. students from Unistrasi, University of Maroua and Rutgers University: free registration.

For all types of participants, those who wish to receive the final certificate are required to pay €32.00 (equivalent to two stamp duties of €16.00, one for the certificate request and one for the certificate issue).

Registration Instructions:
The Summer School will be activated with a minimum of 20 participants. Registration must be completed by filling out the Google form by April 10, 2024. By that date, those interested will be notified of the activation of the International Summer School and/or the Doctoral Colloquium. Registration will be finalized with payment, which must be made via PagoPA or bank transfer by May 5, 2024 (bank details will be provided in case the course is activated).
