Tromsø is regarded as the capital of the Arctic and has been the starting point for North Pole expeditions. With a population of about 79,000, Tromsø is known for its rich cultural life, northern lights, and midnight sun. It is located at 69 degrees north, 350 kilometers above the Arctic Circle. Tromsø has an international airport, Langnes, located just 3 km from downtown. The airport has recently been expanded and offers many direct flights connecting Tromsø to Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Vienna, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Gdańsk, and other cities.
