Issue: Advancements in Early Communicative Development: Coordination, Synchrony, and Material Engagement
Call Deadline: 11-Apr-2025

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite submissions for the special issue "Advancements in Early Communicative Development: Coordination, Synchrony, and Material Engagement", to be published in Infancy.

Early communication emerges through rich multimodal interactions—gaze, gestures, vocal prosody, and material engagement—providing infants with opportunities to coordinate actions, understand social cues, and explore their surroundings. This special issue seeks to bring together research that deepens our understanding of these early interactions, including perspectives from 5E approaches (embodied, enactive, extended, embedded, and ecological).

We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions on topics such as:
- Multimodal communication and interaction patterns in infancy
- Motor coordination, synchrony, and material engagement
- Language acquisition in social contexts
- Applications of 5E approaches to early communication and cognition

Key Dates:
Abstract submission deadline: April 11, 2025
Full manuscript deadline: August 1, 2025

Proposals (title + abstract up to 1,000 words) should be sent to Dr. Nicolás Alessandroni ([email protected]).
