About this event
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Futures (ICDF) invites all staff and students to an exciting brownbag session titled ‘Human Language Technology for SASL at the University of the Free State’ featuring Dr Herkulaas Combrink, the Co-Director of the ICDF, and a Senior Lecturer at the UFS in Economic and Management Sciences.
Over the past 3 years, Dr Combrink was the project manager and lead PI on the Human Language Technology (HLT) component of a third-stream-funded project by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. This HLT project was a multi-institutional collaboration to advance 4IR development of South African Sign Language (SASL) by paving the way for HLT development. This project set the scene for HLT at the UFS about SASL, and ensured that SASL 4IR development continues through research, scholarship and community engagement.
Do not miss this opportunity to see the showcase of this project and the exciting work that took place in the ICDF around HLT.
