Description:
ABOUT COLANG
The Institute on Collaborative Language Research, also known as CoLang, is a biennial gathering where people from various backgrounds can learn about language documentation, descriptive linguistics, and language revitalization from each other. The Institute emphasizes community-based approaches to language revitalization and collaboration at all stages of this work—from designing documentation or teaching projects to activism or archiving materials for future use. CoLang aims to blur the lines between community and academia, learners and facilitators, and among areas of specialty. CoLang welcomes all people interested in community-based, collaborative language work.

ABOUT COLANG WEB COMMITTEE
The CoLang Web Committee was established in 2020 to develop, manage, and maintain the permanent digital presence of the CoLang Institute, independent and inclusive of each local iteration. The Committee is responsible for the public-facing website www.colanginstitute.org, and the internal collection and organization of planning materials in the CoLang Repository. The Committee is responsible to the CoLang Advisory Council via the Colang Advisory Council’s Web Representative, and also works closely with Local Organizing Committees to support efforts such as digital archiving and communications.

FALL 2025 COLANG WEB COMMITTEE INTERN
The CoLang Web Committee is accepting applications for a Fall 2025 Intern to assist with fundraising for operational expenses, and to help revise and communicate the Web Committee’s protocols for collecting course materials and consent for their publication for the upcoming 2026 CoLang. We are seeking applicants with experience and/or interest in fundraising, open-source digital property, digital materials access, and familiarity with the field of Indigenous language reclamation.

COLANG WEB COMMITTEE INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES
The goal of the internship shall be to develop possible funding opportunities, and facilitate the intake process for the online materials repository. Specific duties include:
1. Attend monthly Web Committee Meetings
2. Identify and develop funding opportunities and campaign strategies, creating materials and executing logistics
3. Collaborate with the 2026 CoLang Local Organizing Committee to refine and communicate end-to-end protocols for material-archiving and consent-gathering processes
4. Present repository guidelines to facilitators in an accessible way, fielding questions and collecting feedback on Colang’s open-source digital publication interests
5. Collaborate with the Web Committee to improve and support the material intake process

REPORTING, COMPENSATION, AND CREDIT
This is a fully remote online internship in collaboration with colleagues in EST, MST, and PST time zones. The intern shall report to the CoLang Web Committee. The intern shall receive $500 at the end of the three-month internship period, and is expected to devote at least 33 hours to internship tasks.
The CoLang Web Committee welcomes students interested in taking an internship for school credit. Please reach out to your department to see if this is possible. We are only able to accept those legally authorized to work in the United States at this time. However, we are happy to work with any interested applicant to support their authorization process.
