Description:
The following position is available in the newly established Collaborative Research Center 1718 “Common Ground: Cognition – Grammar – Communication” (funded by the German Research Foundation, DFG) at the University of Tuebingen.
PhD Researcher in Linguistics (m/f/d, E13 TV-L, 75%)
The position begins on 01 October 2025 and ends on 30 June 2029.
The position is associated with project B1 “Lexical Common Ground Management: Particles in Processing and Diachronic Development” with project leaders Katrin Axel-Tober and Britta Stolterfoht (German Department). The project seeks to undertake psycholinguistic and diachronic investigations into the grammar and pragmatics of particles. Potential topics for the doctoral thesis (degree: Doktor der Philosophie, Germanistische Linguistik; for further information see https://uni-tuebingen.de/fakultaeten/philosophische-fakultaet/forschung/promotion/), are contextual constraints on the use of German discourse particles, the diachronic development or processing of discourse or focus particles etc. Data types to be investigated are experimental and/or corpus data.
The candidates should have finished a Linguistics Master's degree by the start date of the project. The project’s leaders and postdoc will guide the research, and offer frequent support, advice, and consultation. The CRC offers an exceptionally rich research environment with excellent opportunities, including methodological training and interdisciplinary work together with many other linguists and psychologists. This post therefore offers the ideal entry point to an academic career in linguistics.
The successful candidate will be a (near-)native speaker of German. Proficiency in English is required as well.
Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preference in the hiring process. The University of Tübingen is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. It therefore takes individual situations into account and asks for relevant information.
The University of Tübingen seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges suitable qualified women academics to apply for this position.
Your application, which must be written in German, should consist of the master’s thesis (if not completed, parts of it), a short motivation letter, a tabular CV, copies of your degree and university certificates and the contact details of one or two potential referees. The deadline for submitting applications is 20 July 2025 at 23:59 (Berlin time). Applications should be addressed to the project’s principal investigators, Katrin Axel-Tober and Britta Stolterfoht, but should be sent electronically to [email protected]. If you have any questions prior to submitting the application, please contact one of the project leaders via email ([email protected], [email protected] ).
Interviews will be conducted via Zoom on 30 July 2025.
The employment process will be handled by the central administration of the University of Tübingen.
