We warmly invite you to the upcoming Circle U. Open Conversation: From Recognition to Inclusion – Rethinking European Languages in Education on 26 September 2025, 10:00–17:30 CET, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin & online

Held on the occasion of the European Day of Languages, this Open Conversation explores what counts as a “European language”. Just English, French, and German? Or also Turkish, Vietnamese, Farsi, and others spoken daily by communities across Europe? What does this mean for the education systems and classroom practices, and how can we move beyond narrow definitions of “multilingualism” toward genuine linguistic inclusion in education context?

The programme features a keynote by Christoph Schroeder (University of Potsdam), followed by a panel discussion and a commentary from Elizabeth Beloe (German Federal Association of Networks of Migrant Organisations) on broader societal power dynamics, as well as roundtable sessions on educational policy and school culture & belonging. The panel brings together researchers, students, and practitioners who will share insights from research and practice.

To register, please fill out the registration form linked on the event page by 11 September for on-site participation and by 24 September for online participation.

Please note that due to limited capacity, on-site participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
