Description:
The Department of English at CUHK is currently seeking outstanding postgraduate students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in Applied Linguistics or English Literary Studies.
Regular studentship (for both MPhil and PhD students):
- A monthly stipend for a Postgraduate Studentship is HK$ 19,100 (approx. US$ 2,450) per month
- Overseas conference attendance support up to HK$ 10,000 (approx. US$ 1,282) for MPhil and HK$ 30,000 (approx. US$ 3,846) for PhD students for the whole normative period

Vice-Chancellor Scholarship (for selected PhD students only):
- A studentship of HK$ 224,700 (approx. US$ 28,810) per annum within the normative study period
- A conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$ 30,000 (approx. US$ 3,846) within the normative study period
- An award of a total HK$ 80,000 (approx. US$ 10,260)
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Scholarship (for PhD students only):
- An annual stipend of HK$340,800 (approximately US$43,700)
- A conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,200 (approx. US$1,820) per year and HK$30,000 (approx. US$3,840) within the normative study period

General requirements:
- A BA/MA/MPhil degree in relevant fields of study (Applied Linguistics or English Literature) awarded by a recognized university
- A research proposal and/or sample research paper(s) that demonstrate the applicant's research abilities and potential
- For non-native English speakers applying from non-English speaking universities, an IELTS or TOEFL iBT score within 2 years (exempted for native English speakers or those applying from English-speaking universities)
- Note: Applicants who have earned an undergraduate degree in English from Mainland China or Macau are still required to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores, unless they can provide official documentation from the university’s Registry confirming that the language of instruction for their degree program was English.
Preferred attributes:

- Professional experiences related to English language teaching, English literature, or creative writing
