Dear Child Language Community,
We are honoured to announce the first volume of TiLAR Language Overviews - an initiative of the book series Trends in Language Acquisition Research published by John Benjamins. This initiative honours the 40th anniversary of the publication of Dan Slobin’s edited volumes The Crosslinguistic Study of Language Acquisition (1985-1997).
TiLAR Language Overviews provide state-of-the-art summaries of language acquisition research in individual languages and language families for researchers and practitioners. The aim is to produce full volumes to cover languages addressed as single chapters in the Slobin volumes, as well as produce overviews of languages not represented in the original series.
The first volume is First Language Acquisition in Finno-Ugric Languages (https://benjamins.com/catalog/tilar.33), edited by Minna Kirjavainen, Ágnes Lukács and Virve-Anneli Vihman. It contains three chapters on each of Estonian, Finnish, and Hungarian, as well as one chapter on North Saami.
Planned future volumes in the series include Korean, Greek, Spanish, Polish, and Czech, with others in early stages of planning. We are eagerly seeking proposals for further volumes - please contact us for more information.
Best,
Evan Kidd and Shanley Allen, TiLAR Series Editors.
