The 38th North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-38) will be held from May 8–10, 2026 at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., USA. Launched in 1989, the NACCL conference series has become a major academic platform for Chinese language and linguistics research in North America and beyond.
NACCL-38 invites abstracts in all subfields of Chinese linguistics, including but not limited to:
- Syntax, Morphology
- Phonetics, Phonology
- Semantics, Pragmatics
- Computational Linguistics
- Sociolinguistics
- Psycholinguistics
- Corpus Linguistics
- Dialectology, Historical Linguistics
- Language Acquisition and Pedagogy
The presentation formats include 20-minute talks and poster sessions. Abstracts and presentations can be given in either English or Mandarin Chinese. Presentations given at NACCL-38, including both talks and posters, will be eligible for publication as full articles in the conference proceedings.
Additionally, there will be workshops and networking opportunities during the conference. We warmly welcome colleagues from around the world, including graduate students, both within and beyond the United States, to participate in NACCL-38, share their research, and engage in meaningful scholarly exchanges.
Conference Theme:
The theme of NACCL-38 is “Chinese Language and Linguistics in the Age of AI”. The interdisciplinary dialogue between modern linguistics and AI has been a topic of research for decades. Recent breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence are transforming research approaches and opening new frontiers in Chinese linguistics. We encourage submissions related to this theme, though abstracts outside of this scope will also be fully considered.
