Doctoral Research Assistant (m/f/d), limited term, part-time (currently 20 hours per week)

Job Description:
Part-time with half of the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited to 3 years with the possibility of an extension for another 2 years (PhD qualification position according to § 72 HessHG in accordance with § 2 para. 1 sentence 1 WissZeitVG). The opportunity to pursue a doctorate is available.
We offer a temporary research position (to obtain a doctorate degree/PhD) in the field of “Research on Foreign Language Teaching and Learning: English Didactics”, which advocates a close integration of empiricism, theory, and practice and focuses on the psycholinguistically based, empirical study of the processes of learning and teaching English as a foreign language in the context of a second language and multilingualism, taking into account cognitive factors and the development of evidence-based implications for teaching English as a foreign language.
Key Responsibilities:
• Research assistant at the Chair of “Research on Foreign Language Learning and Teaching: English Didactics “
• Independent work on an evidence-based research topic, e.g. a study on second or third language acquisition (multilingualism) of English as a foreign language, cognitive approaches to language learning and/or teaching, and/or attention and learning deficiencies in foreign language acquisition
• The qualification work should be carried out in a school or laboratory setting, taking into account empirical/experimental data collection
• Initiating and supporting research projects and contributing to publications in the field of “Research on Foreign Language Teaching and Learning: English Didactics”
• Support in the preparation and organization of scientific conferences, workshops, symposia and events in the above-mentioned field
• Participation in academic self-management and in the subject and study structure of the above-mentioned chair
Essential Requirements:
• Completed academic university studies in English teaching or a master's degree in English studies with a focus on research on foreign language teaching and learning (for international degrees, also an M.Sc./M.Ed./M.A. in second language acquisition, multilingualism, applied linguistics or TESOL). The required qualification must be obtained at the latest by the start date of employment.
• Initial experience with quantitative data analysis (e.g. in the context of an empirical/experimental exam/final thesis)
Desirable Attributes:
• Knowledge of the main areas of the subject chair “Research on Foreign Language Teaching and Learning: English Didactics”
• First publications and/or conference presentations, e.g. at student conferences
• Experience in working with schools, centers for practical teacher training or other school-related or school-affiliated institutions
• Ability and interest in dealing with heterogeneous learning conditions
• Ability to work in a team, reliability, structure and a high degree of independence in completing tasks as well as enjoyment in working with different groups of people
• Strong organizational and coordination skills, e.g. experience in supporting the preparation and organization of scientific conferences
• Strong communication skills and pronounced presentation and moderation skills, as well as thorough working methods
