The MIT Press is the only university press in the United States whose list is based in science and technology. This does not mean that science and engineering are all we publish, but it does mean that we are committed to the edges and frontiers of the world -- to exploring new fields and new modes of inquiry. (For a time we described our publishing program as chasing "The Moving Frontier," but we've moved beyond even that.) We publish about 200 new books a year and over 40 journals. We are a major publishing presence in fields as diverse as architecture, social theory, economics, cognitive science, and computational science, and we have a long-term commitment to both design excellence and the efficient and creative use of new technologies. Our goal is to create books and journals that are challenging, creative, attractive, and yet affordable to individual readers.
Multilingual Matters is dedicated to publishing the very best textbooks and research monographs in the fields of applied linguistics, literacy education, multicultural education and immigrant language learning. We take an ethical stance in all of our business dealings and strive to make a positive change wherever we can, and we pride ourselves on our willingness to publish work from neglected geographical areas and our ability to discover and publish cutting-edge research from all over the world.
For years the publishing houses Gunter Narr Verlag, Tübingen, A. LOT is the acronym of “Landelijke Onderzoekschool Taalwetenschap” (‘National Research School of Linguistics’) and organises the nationwide training of graduate students in linguistics. Every year, a LOT Winter School is held in January, and a LOT Summer School takes place in June/July. Another important branch of LOT is the dissertation series: all LOT graduate students can publish their dissertation with LOT.
The research by the LOT institutes covers all major areas of linguistics, and exploits a wide range of methodological tools and theoretical frameworks. Recent evaluations of participating institutes and of LOT itself are outstanding, and corroborate the excellent quality of linguistic research in the Netherlands.
