African Languages in the 21st Century.

Call for Papers:

Sol Plaatje University is pleased to announce that the School of Humanities will host an International Language Conference from 6-8 September 2023.

The Department of Languages and Communication within the School of Humanities calls upon all academic scholars and postgraduate students to submit proposals under the theme: “Servants of Africa – African Languages in the 21st Century”.

Keynote speakers for this International Conference include, Ms Anzil Kulsen (Northern Cape Writer), Ms Sindiswa Busuku (Writer, University of Cape Town), Prof Niklaas Fredericks (Namibia University of Science and Technology), Dr Eileen Elizabeth Pooe (North-West University) and Prof Henry Thipa (Nelson Mandela University).

An abstract of 150-250 should be submitted to [email protected] no later than Monday, 15 May 2023.

Proposals must include the title of the paper, keywords, author’s name/s and title, affiliation/s, and a contact email address. Reference lists are not required.

Papers may focus on any African language but abstracts and presentations during the conference must be in one of the official languages of the Northern Cape where the University is situated, i.e., Afrikaans, English, Setswana, and isiXhosa.

Abstracts and presentations in Afrikaans, Setswana, and isiXhosa must be accompanied by a translated summary in English. Interpreting services into English will be available for presentations in Afrikaans, Setswana, and isiXhosa.
