The Department of Linguistics at the University of Rochester (http://www.sas.rochester.edu/lin/) invites applications for a one-year non-tenure track appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2023. We seek candidates with a record of excellence in teaching and research with a specialization in sociolinguistics. A secondary specialization in field methods, computational methods, and/or theoretical linguistics is highly desirable. Duties include teaching sociolinguistics (language variation and change) and potentially introduction to linguistics and courses in phonetics/phonology, morphology, historical linguistics, or syntax depending on candidate's expertise. Experience with or interest in interdisciplinary work is highly desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand before the appointment begins.

The Department of Linguistics is part of a larger active interdisciplinary community consisting of faculty and students doing language research in linguistics, cognitive science, philosophy, computer science, and neuroscience.
