The Department of Linguistics at the University of Rochester (http://www.sas.rochester.edu/lin/) invites applications for a one-year non-tenure track appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2023. We seek candidates with a record of excellence in teaching and research with a specialization in sociolinguistics. A secondary specialization in field methods, computational methods, and/or theoretical linguistics is highly desirable. Duties include teaching sociolinguistics (language variation and change) and potentially introduction to linguistics and courses in phonetics/phonology, morphology, historical linguistics, or syntax depending on candidate's expertise. Experience with or interest in interdisciplinary work is highly desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand before the appointment begins.
The Department of Linguistics is part of a larger active interdisciplinary community consisting of faculty and students doing language research in linguistics, cognitive science, philosophy, computer science, and neuroscience. We seek candidates who are likely to benefit by those connections. This is a full-time position with benefits.
