There is currently an „English Linguistics“ postdoc position (f/m/x) to be filled in Prof. Dr. Beatrix Busse’s team. The focus could be on corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics of historical linguistics or the history of English. In addition to the role of English, the impact of linguistics on social issues and overcoming the major social challenges in research, teaching, and learning (4 SWS per semester in the Department of English Studies), innovation and transfer are also important. As well as administrative tasks, participation in projects such as heiURBAN, HeidelGram (https://heidelgram.de/) or EUniWell (https://www.euniwell.eu/) is expected.
YOUR TASKS
- Teach two courses per semester (4 SWS)
- Regularly present results at national and international scientific conferences and aid in scientific communication and transfer activities
- Corpus compilation and annotation
- Develop corpus-specific software
- Help supervise (student) research assistants
YOUR PROFILE
- Very good to excellent PhD in English studies, English linguistics, computer-/corpus linguistics, or in another relevant discipline
- Excellent command of English in spoken and written form
- An interest in and prior knowledge of qualitative and quantitative corpus linguistic methodology and in annotating linguistic data (XML, TEI etc.) OR substantiated knowledge of programming in Python, basic knowledge in software engineering, natural language processing, and network and graph analysis OR an interest and willingness to acquire these skills
- Preferably knowledge in working with databases and SQL, Git, basic knowledge of machine learning
