Meeting Description:

We invite scholars and researchers from diverse disciplines to participate in our interdisciplinary one-day workshop focused on the topic of “Discourse, Roles, and Democratization”. This workshop aims to explore the intricate relationship between language use, societal roles, and the processes of democratization in various contexts. We welcome contributions from linguistics, cultural studies, political science, sociology, history, law, as well as other disciplines that offer insights into the multifaceted connections between discourse, power dynamics, and the advancement of democratic principles.

Call for Papers:

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Language and political representation
The role of social media in shaping democratic narratives
Linguistic strategies in political campaigns
Identity construction and democratization
Civic engagement and democratization
Language policy and democratization efforts
Language and participatory democracy
(Societal) roles available for individuals
Public opinion formation through discourse

Submission Guidelines:
Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be submitted via email to [email protected] by 20 August 2023. Papers can be submitted in English or German. Please find the full call for papers on our website.

Registration:
Participation in the workshop is free of charge, but registration is required. Details on registration and the workshop program will be provided upon acceptance of abstracts.
