ABOUT THE ROLE

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film at Queen Mary University of London is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Linguistics with research expertise in computational linguistics. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to contribute to the life of the Department and the School by participating in research seminars and undertaking administrative and advisory duties.

Applications are invited from candidates with research and training expertise in computational linguistics, whose work shows strong engagement with linguistic theories. Your research interests/expertise should align with and extend the theoretical interests currently represented across the department, which include morphology, syntax, semantics, phonology, phonetics, sociolinguistics, neuro/psycholinguistics, and language acquisition, as well as experimental approaches across these fields. Expertise in theoretical phonology is especially welcome.

You will make significant contributions to the intellectual life of the school and research field of computational linguistics. You will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching and assessment across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including innovations in teaching and learning computational methods. You will make important research contributions, advancing the subject through publications and engagement. You will be responsible for mentoring research staff, fostering collegiality, and fulfilling School-wide responsibilities.

ABOUT YOU

You will hold a PhD and/or relevant professional qualification/experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment, influencing the curriculum. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organizational and communicative skills, are essential.

The post is full-time and permanent, with an expected start date of 01 September 2024. The starting salary will be at Grade 5, £49,785 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
