Call for Papers:
We invite abstracts for 20 minute talks at the inaugural International Symposium of Bornean Linguistics (ISBL), held in-person at the National University of Singapore, June 6–7, 2024. ISBL1 will be held in conjunction with the 27th International Symposium on Malay/Indonesian Linguistics (ISMIL27) on June 5–6, 2024.
Papers presented at ISBL should be concerned with the languages of Borneo, an island of considerable linguistic and cultural diversity. Presentations may be on any linguistic subfield, and we encourage a diverse range of theoretical and practical approaches to issues in linguistics. We particularly encourage presentations from junior scholars and those from or in partnership with local Bornean scholars and speakers of Bornean languages. The language of presentation is English.
We are pleased to welcome Charlotte Hemmings (University of Oxford) and Roselind Wan (Curtin University Malaysia) as ISBL plenary speakers. ISMIL27 will feature Nala Lee (National University of Singapore), Bradley McDonnell (University of Hawai’i), and Hiroki Nomoto (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) as plenary speakers.
Submission instructions: Anonymous one-page abstracts (data and references may be on a second page) should be submitted in electronic form (PDF and MSWord) to the following address: [email protected] . Please indicate your name, affiliation, and title of abstract in the body of the email. Abstracts on Malayic languages of Borneo can be submitted to the ISBL call or to the ISMIL27 call. Such submissions will be considered together for a joint session on Malayic languages of Borneo.
