Meeting Description:

We are pleased to invite submissions of abstracts for the conference "Articulations of Democracy Education" on May 15-16, 2025, in Vienna. The aim of the conference is to explore the relationship between language, democracy, and education, bringing theoretical, empirical, and didactic perspectives into dialogue. Abstracts can be submitted in German, English, French, or Italian by December 4, 2024. Articulations of Democracy Education (15 & 16 May 2025, Vienna, Austria)

We are pleased to invite you to submit abstracts for the conference "Articulations of Democracy Education" on 15 and 16 May 2025 in Vienna. The aim of the conference is to shed light on the relationship between language, democracy and education. Theoretical, empirical and didactical perspectives will be brought into dialogue.

Abstracts can be submitted on one of the following - but also further - questions:
• How can the relationship between language, democracy and education be analysed?
• What potential does democratic education have from a subject-specific and transdisciplinary perspective?
• Under what conditions can articulations of democracy be created in education?
• What roles do language and political education play in promoting a culture of democracy?
• How do linguistic concepts and subjective beliefs of democracy influence each other?
• What forms of inclusion and exclusion through language exist/have existed in the context of democratic education and what effects do/did they have?

Submission details:
Papers can be submitted in German, English, French and Italian (submissions in other languages may be possible by arrangement). Abstracts should not exceed a maximum length of 300 words (excluding bibliography) and should clearly present the research question, methodological approach and expected results of the paper.

Presentation formats:
• Presentation with discussion: 20 minutes presentation followed by 10 minutes discussion.
• Poster presentation: Presentation of a poster during the 45-minute poster session.
• Workshop: 45-minute interactive workshops with the audience.
