Meeting Description:

We welcome original papers on research in all areas of multilingualism and the acquisition or use of three or more languages. The language of the conference will be predominantly English, but contributions in other languages will also be considered (as long as the English translation is also provided).

Call for Papers:

The 13th International Conference on Third Language Acquisition and Multilingualism will be
held at the Faculty of Arts, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, August 29-31, 2024. The
conference will be preceded by a doctoral workshop on August 28, 2024.
The conference will feature three keynote talks by

■ Ad Backus (University of Tilburg, The Netherlands)
■ Joana Duarte (University of Groningen, The Netherlands)
■ Viorica Marian (Northwestern University, USA)

We welcome original papers on research in all areas of multilingualism and the acquisition or
use of three or more languages. The language of the conference will be predominantly
English, but contributions in other languages will also be considered (as long as the English
translation is also provided).

The call for papers opened on November 10, 2023, and closes on January 10, 2024.
Types of presentations

We welcome abstracts in three categories: individual papers in parallel sessions, posters, or
for the doctoral student workshop.
● Individual papers will be allotted 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the presentation and 10
minutes for questions and discussion.
● Posters will be displayed during designated poster sessions.
● The doctoral student workshop is intended to serve as a platform for discussions of
ongoing PhD research, and for obtaining feedback from senior researchers
(discussants) and other scholars. Doctoral student papers will be assigned 30
minutes: 15 minutes for the presentation and 15 minutes for the discussion. Doctoral
students whose proposals are accepted are required to send their abstracts,
presentation, and specific questions to the discussant before the conference (deadline
tba). The doctoral workshop will take place on August 28 in the afternoon.

Abstract submission guidelines
Abstracts should be in English or in the language of presentation (accompanied by an English
translation) and should contain max. 300 words, excluding title and references. Abstracts
should be submitted no later than January 10, 2024, via this link. Please note that each
participant can appear as the first author (and presenter) of one presentation only.
All abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by the scientific committee and evaluated in
terms of the quality of content, clarity, contribution to the field, and thematic relevance.
Notifications of acceptance will be sent out mid-February, 2024.
